Through our reading approach, we strive to develop a love of reading in all of our children. Children are grouped within their classes to ensure that they are exposed to texts that both challenge and support them in their development of reading skills and comprehension. Children work in small groups with an adult at least twice a week and continue to build on this input through a range of exciting and educational independent or group tasks. Children have the opportunity to read as a group, in pairs and independently.
Additionally to this, KS1 use a scheme for individual reading. Across school children have access to a wide range of reading books for both free and home reading. Children are read to by their teacher on a daily basis during ‘Class Book’ time.
Around school there are a number of themed 'Reading Nooks' that are designed to encourage children to 'curl up with a book' during break and lunchtimes.
