We follow the White Rose scheme of learning. We follow the units of the scheme whilst ensuring identified gaps in learning are plugged. Using the structure of ‘I do, We do, You do’ children are supported in their approach to learning new methods and techniques before moving onto independent work. Children are exposed to a wide range of Maths activities and questions, with regular opportunities for concrete (using resources) and abstract learning. Alongside White Rose we have a daily arithmetic session ‘6 A Day’. Arithmetic needs are based on gaps identified by the teacher.
- What - For every child to develop a sound understanding of Maths by giving opportunities for children to explore mathematical concepts centred around fluency, reasoning and problem solving - building resilience for test techniques and getting children to understand their own gaps in learning.
- Why - To equipping them with the skills of calculation, reasoning and problem solving that they need in life beyond school.
- How - Teachers will facilitate and model a CPA approach using the I DO, WE DO, YOU DO approach to embed knowledge and understanding - planning from the White Rose to ensure consistency of coverage, pitch and expectations.
To ensure consistency for our children, we have a calculation policy. This details the methods pupils use for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Further information on this, including some video clips, will be available soon for you to use to support your children.
