Writing at Eyrescroft
At Eyrescroft we plan our writing to link to our cornerstones topic. Each week we take part in a topic writing session which all form our ‘Journal of Writing’. We then publish a piece to go in our presentation folder. We are very proud of our finished pieces and to see the progress we make with our writing as we move through school.
Handwriting at Eyrescroft
At Eyrescroft we believe that presentation is a key factor to encouraging our reader to engage with our writing. We follow the Nelson Handwriting scheme.
In the Autumn Term Mrs Ward launched the termly handwriting competition. Each term we take part in a handwriting competition. The winning piece of work from each class is displayed pride of place in entrance to school. This term our competition is based around a story based on a picture.
Reading at Eyrescroft
At 1.15 every day you won’t hear a sound in school as everyone is taking part in STaR. This is our stop and read time where for 15 minute everyone (including the teachers) take part in quiet reading. We encourage all children to read at home as much as they can.
Children are encouraged to read at home as much as they can. In KS2 children have access to our accelerated reader scheme. Children read books appropriate for their reading level which they then take a quiz on. They have to try and meet the target set by their teacher. We are relaunching this scheme this summer term and each week we will see which class has got the most quizzes correct and will receive the accelerated reader trophy. Who will be the first to get it?
